Island-based runner Ian ‘Lion’ Gordon is currently conducting a historic sporting milestone. The long-distance athlete is running the country’s breadth and width in an eight-day half-marathon tour through all six districts, from Corozal to  Toledo.

Gordon will also cover distances from the Cayo to the Belize Districts as he attempts to visit every municipality within the country’s six districts. Gordon said he plans to run 13.1 miles every day as he passes by villages, towns, and cities across Belize. He expects to complete this first-ever challenge by Monday, May 3rd, in San Pedro Town. On this day, he will also be celebrating five years of being a marathoner.

The event is being transmitted live on Gordon’s Facebook account. He has covered the Corozal and Orange Walk Districts and is currently heading north from the Toledo District in southern Belize.  Several athletes are running with Gordon along the way, eager to take part in the historic sporting event. Community representatives in each district are invited to come out and provide information about their town or city. The run aims to promote the different municipalities across the country for local and international tourism.

On December 19, 2020, Gordon completed the first-ever ‘King Lion 101 mile run challenge.’ He made history after completing the run in 21 hours and 40 minutes.
