Holy Cross Anglican School Offering its 3rd SPICE Culinary Program Starting May 5

After two successful culinary classes and 17 graduates, Holy Cross Anglican School is excited to announce that it will be starting the third SPICE (San Pedro Institute of Culinary Education) course on May 5, 2026 with 30 classes one night per week through December, culminating in a celebratory graduation dinner!

GOB Launches Digital Literacy Training Initiative

172 Ocean Academy Students to Benefit from Free Tuition Program

Area Representative for Belize Rural South, Hon. Andre Perez, confirmed on February 11th that 172 students at Ocean Academy in Caye Caulker will receive free tuition starting the next fiscal year, aligning the island with national public high school tuition policies. The announcement comes as Ministry of Education officials are expected to visit the island in the coming days to finalize plans for new school facilities.

BTB Recognizes 13 Belizean Chefs at Culinary Certification Ceremony

The Belize Tourism Board (BTB), through its Elevate Training Institute, hosted a Culinary Certification Ceremony on Monday, February 9, 2026, to recognize 13 Belizean chefs who earned professional culinary certifications from the American Culinary Federation (ACF). The ceremony was held at 9:30AM in the Coral Room at the Grand Resort & Residences in Belize City. It marked a major step toward strengthening Belize’s culinary sector and tourism product.

Foundation of Belize Supports RISE Readers with Back-to-School Supplies

On Tuesday, February 4, at 3:30PM., the Foundation of Belize donated school bags stocked with essential supplies to children enrolled in the RISE Literacy Program during a session at San Pedro High School. Executive Director and San Pedro Town Councillor Dianeli Aranda, along with founders Joseph and Catherine Cooper, presented the bags to the program’s 13 students, ages six to 13.

Temporary Classrooms Used as Ocean Academy Campus Remains Uninhabitable

Ocean Academy, Caye Caulker’s only high school, remains displaced from its campus following severe flood damage and has been operating out of temporary and borrowed spaces since November 2025. The school has been conducting sessions in locations such as boat rooms, community centres, and spaces above restaurants after health inspectors deemed the campus uninhabitable due to extensive flooding, mould growth, and mosquito infestations.

Caye Caulker and San Pedro to Get New Schools in 2026

Area Representative Hon. Andre Perez has announced that new school projects for Caye Caulker and San Pedro, Ambergris Caye, are slated to begin in 2026. Perez shared the update while outlining planned development projects for Belize Rural South at the end of the year.

SPHS Introduces New Visitor Check-In System

San Pedro High School has rolled out a new visitor screening process designed to enhance campus security and improve student attendance tracking. The changes, which began in September and are now fully implemented, require all visitors, including parents and guests, to sign in at the main gate and present identification such as a Social Security card or government-issued ID. The updated protocol was introduced to prevent unauthorized student departures and ensure closer monitoring of attendance.
