Evening Shift at Holy Cross Expands Access to Education

Holy Cross Anglican School, north of San Pedro Town in the San Mateo area, is set to launch a new evening program on October 20, 2025, designed to meet the needs of children currently left on waiting lists due to overcrowded classrooms. This initiative, known as the Second Chance After-School Program, will offer learning opportunities to up to 40 students in Infant I, Infant II, and Standard I, introducing a shift system approach to provide learning opportunities, pioneering a shift system approach unique to the island’s education landscape.

San Pedro Lions promote mental health awareness at SPHS

On World Mental Health Day, observed on Friday, October 10th, the San Pedro Lions Club hosted an informative program at the San Pedro High School (SPHS) focused on mental health awareness. The event featured motivational speeches and a personal testimony, reminding students that they are not alone in their struggles and encouraging them to seek support. The message emphasized that asking for help is a sign of strength, not a sign of weakness.

Site Visit Conducted on Proposed Location for Three New Island Schools

Area Representative Honorable Andre Perez led a site visit to the location designated for three new schools on northern Ambergris Caye. The proposed site, about seven miles north of downtown San Pedro, has been identified for the construction of a preschool, primary school, and high school. The broader project also includes a preschool and high school in Caye Caulker. Joining the visit were the Minister of Education, Honorable Oscar Requena, and Cabinet colleagues Honourable Ramon Cervantes and Honorable Oscar Mira.

The Island Academy Turns 30, Launches High School Program

A new preschool dedicated to children with special needs will open in San Pedro in September 2025, spearheaded by the NGO IncludeMe2. The initiative builds on the success of the IncludeMe program, which currently offers occupational and speech therapy to children with disabilities such as autism.

SPJC Celebrates 25 Years and Graduates 50 Students

Former San Pedro High School Educator Teaching in the United States

Kyna Cal, a former teacher at San Pedro High School (SPHS) and leader of its marching band, is now a Spanish teacher in the United States, thanks to the support and guidance of Global Teaching Partners. This program recruits international teachers annually and is part of a U.S. Department of State initiative that places educators in full-time teaching positions at various elementary institutions. After approximately five years, participants return to their home countries to share their experiences with colleagues and students.

San Pedro Preschool Celebrates 63 Little Graduates

The San Pedro Preschool celebrated its 2025 graduating class with a pair of heartwarming ceremonies at Sagebrush Church on July 3rd. The milestone event was divided into two sessions: one in the morning, honoring 27 young graduates, and another in the afternoon, recognizing 36 additional students. In total, 63 children — 29 girls and 34 boys — proudly received their diplomas, marking a joyful step forward in their educational journeys.
