Island Athletes Compete at Central American Games; Belize Secures Two Medals

The 12th edition of the Central American Games is underway in Guatemala, with several Belizean athletes competing during the first week of events. Among the national delegation, four San Pedranos proudly represent the island: Julio Bardalez with the National Softball Team, Kian Trejo in triathlon, and Alexa Acosta and Johann Marin in weightlifting.

Charity Run Raises Funds for Hope Haven

At 6:30AM on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, 40 registered runners and walkers gathered in front of the Grand Caribe Resort just north of San Pedro to take part in a 5K Charity Walk/Run. Hosted by Belize Water Services (BWS) and the Caribbean Water and Wastewater Association (CWWA), the community event was held in partnership with Hope Haven Belize Children’s Home and Empowerment Center. The US$25 visitor registration fee or the $25BZ local registration fee per participant directly benefited the charity.

Island League Football Tournament Returns

The Island League Football Tournament kicked off on October 16th with 11 teams competing for the 2025 title. This season’s lineup includes defending champions Sea Bulls FC, Sharks FC, Alaia FC, Black Sails FC, Shark Shooters FC, Island Rebels FC, G Strikers FC, Boca Bombers FC, Survivor United, Vince Assassins FC, and Joker Futbol FC.

Inter-Office Football Tournament Heads to Quarterfinals

The Inter-Office Football Tournament will host its quarterfinal matches on Sunday, October 26th, at the Ambergris Stadium. The evening will feature four games, starting at 5 PM, with the last eight teams competing for a spot in the semifinals.

Ken Watkins and Darrel Smith Break World Record for Most Permit Caught on Fly

A new milestone in saltwater fly-fishing has been set off the coast of Ambergris Caye. Longtime visiting angler Ken Watkins and San Pedro fly-fishing guide Darrel Smith have broken the world record for the most Permit caught on fly, landing an incredible 515 fish and surpassing the previous records of 513 and 514 held by renowned anglers Del Brown and Mike Ward.

Shark Cup Volleyball Tournament Heats Up in Week Three

The third week of the Shark Cup Volleyball Tournament took place on Friday, October 11th, at the San Pedro High School (SPHS), featuring exciting matches across several divisions. Local teams competed fiercely in the under-15 male and female categories, as well as in the senior men’s, senior women’s, and co-ed divisions, drawing strong community support throughout the day.

The Inter-Office Football Tournament continues to draw football fans to the Ambergris Stadium every weekend. The competition, divided into Groups A and B, has delivered exciting matches and a shift in the standings, with several new teams now taking the lead.

Belize’s Under-16 Boys National Team Competes in 2025 UNCAF FIFA Forward Tournament

The Under-16 Belize Boys National Team represented the country at the 2025 UNCAF FIFA Forward Tournament held in Guatemala City, Guatemala. The team featured San Pedro’s own Erick Rodriguez as goalkeeper and faced intense competition from Costa Rica, Honduras, El Salvador, and Panama.

5K Glow Run Raises Awareness for Healthy Living

The community-based 501 Run Club hosted its third annual 5K Glow Run on Saturday, October 4th, at Central Park in San Pedro Town. The event attracted 105 participants of all ages, competing in both male and female categories. Every runner who completed the 3.1-mile course was recognized, and the top three finishers in each division received trophies.

San Pedro Tiger Sharks Crowned Champions of BPBL Jaguar Cup

The island’s premier basketball team, the San Pedro Tiger Sharks, has claimed the championship title of the Belize Premier Basketball League (BPBL) Jaguar Cup after defeating the Cayo Western Ballaz 63-56 at the Belize Civic Center. With the victory, the Tiger Sharks cemented their reputation for discipline, professionalism, and dominance in one of Belize’s most popular sports.
